What is OT?

The things we do to occupy our time are our occupations. Important occupations for children include playing, learning, sport, hobbies, self-care, sleep, toileting, managing emotions, and interacting with friends and family. If it’s important to you or your child to be able to do it, then it’s important to your Occupational Therapist to help them find a way.

Solution Focused

We will work together to find creative solutions. We will do this by breaking the task into achievable steps, changing the equipment used, modifying the environment, or trialing different ways of giving instructions.

Promote Independence

We will help your child to complete the daily occupations they ‘need’ to do, on their own. This includes using the toilet, managing day and night time toileting, getting dressed, sleeping well, washing hair and brushing teeth.

Foster Success and Confidence

We will help your child to engage in the daily occupations they ‘want’ to do, on their own. This includes neuroaffirming play with family, friends and on their own, craft, hobbies, going on outings and playing at the park.

Build Relationships

We will use a relationship-based approach to help you and your child feel bonded and connected. You will learn ways to play and interact with your child in a way that feels good for them, and that builds on their social, emotional and physical development.
